Scholarship Information and Application

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the scholarship is to assist an advanced level student to further their tap dance studies. Scholarship monies may be used to assist with tuition fees at a school to which the student has applied for further study or for a special one-time program or course within the calendar year.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
    1. An applicant must be of the amateur or semi-professional level, aged 15 - 25 years. not earning more than $5000 a year teaching or performing tap.
    2. Applicants are required to submit an application. A board will review these applications and selected applicants will be required to attend an audition class which may include technique, a combination and improvisation. There will also be a prepared performance component where the candidate will perform a choreographed tap routine of their choice, not to exceed 1 minute 30 seconds in length, showcasing performance ability. Appropriate rehearsal attire is required for both parts of the audition, however no costumes are required. Applicants will be observed by a panel of prominent members of the local tap/entertainment community.
    3. Applicants are required to submit at least one letter of recommendation from a professional in the tap community, such as a teacher or mentor, who is familiar with the student. The letter(s) should outline the student’s ability, talent, and attitude. A maximum of two letters may be submitted.
    4. Applicants must also submit a letter outlining:
        a. Personal and immediate goals in tap;
        b. Ultimate/long term goals in tap;
        c. An outline of the course/program/school for which the scholarship is intended and how this training will further the                applicant's goals.
    5. Applicants must submit a photo and resume detailing:
        a. Current and past training, and/or;
        b. Major exhibitions, examinations, performances and productions in which the applicant has participated, including details       on when and in what capacity.

    7. An incomplete or late application will not be considered.
    8. Documentation supplied with the application is the property of West Coast Tap Dance Collective and will not be returned.
    9. The scholarship is not available for travel expenses or for past studies.
    10. Any scholarship remaining unclaimed by January 1, 2011 will be forfeited.
    11. The scholarship recipient may be invited to perform at the West Coast Tap Dance Collective’s International Tap Dance      Day celebration.
